Who doesn’t want to get a high salary when they work? Everyone wants it. Even the uneducated people it. Even the uneducated  poeple wish for getting sallary as much as they could. But, how about if their dreams becoming terrifying danger that threats their safety while their work? That’s what happened to our TKI or Indonesian worker. TKI, Tenaga Kerja Indonesia earns money overseas for a living. They join to certain agent for TKI and they are sent to other countries such as Malaysia, Singapore, and Saudi Arabia to work. They usually work as servants or laborers. By the time, the prosperity of our TKI is getting apprehensive. Their safety in abroad is questionable. Concerning to this, our government must stop sending them abroad and giving them chances to work in our beloved prosperous country which has unstop natural capital rather than watching them as servants treated like animal by their employer.

According to Sekretariat Negara Republik Indonesia, the placement TKI to foreign countries on the beginning February 2010 is up to 2.679.536 people. Whereas the income of the foreign exchange until the end of the year 2009 is up to US$ 6.615.321.274 million. That fact shows that TKI contribute the highest foreign exchange to our country. Of course, TKI have great influences to our country’s income. Furthermore, that income does help the development of our country. Even, our Society calls TKI as the hero of foreign exchange. However, when we think about it deeper, a big question will come in our mind; why do we have to send TKI to work outside the country rather than allow them to work in their own huge and wealthy country? The problem is the job vacancies. The government should realize to create more and more job vacancies around Indonesia. As we can see, the job vacancies are just focused on the big cities such as Jakarta, Bandung, or Jogjakarta. This reality is very contrasting with the job vacancies in small cities. So by establishing the job vacancies equally, the unemployment will have jobs. They don’t need to work for the countries that they don’t belong to. In addition, the natural resources in our country will be used by effectively for developing our beloved country.

Working in foreign countries like what TKI do doesn’t always fulfill with happiness and relief. In other words, it becomes nightmare for them. They become the targets of human trafficking. Moreover, the domestic violence happens to them. They are tortured, raped, even murdered by their own employers. Take one example, one of TKI named Kikim Kumalasari who worked in Pakistan murdered by her own employer. Her body was found in the garbage can. It is also reported that before she was murdered, she got violence and raped (liputan6.com). Doesn’t your heart bleed to let our sister treated in such a way? Will we just do nothing watching someone who has the same blood with us treated brutally? Surely not! It is obviously against human rights. However, our government does nothing real to help them. The rights and the protection law for TKI are so weak. In this case, TKI are so unsecured. They do a very hard work whereas our government only notices about the income. As a good government, our government must start to take action to give higher protection and rights to guarantee TKIs’ safety in abroad.

The background of why people in Indonesia have highly interest to work as servants in foreign country is that their education. The reason is that being servant does not need high level of education. They just need to work using their physical ability such as house keeper and construction worker. Due to the low of their level of education, they are deceived by the sweet talk of the TKI agents to work illegally. Their point of views is that they get job for living without thinking the bad impacts. If we draw the conclusion, education take important part in this problematic situation. Therefore, our government must improve the level of education or the educational system around the country. The government has to make sure that each people who live in this country has rights to achieve education. Furthermore, the government itself is required to provide the facilities of education for every citizen.

As a conclusion, it is obvious that TKI has great contribute to the development of our country. In the other hand, it create unstop problem that disturbing the safety of Indonesian worker. The only way to solve it is that the government should stop sending them abroad. It would be much and much better to work in our own ‘home’ and build our country to be a great country that gives welfare for every single citizen that breath in the air of Indonesia.
